Ford Recalls 550,000 Vehicles Over Rollaway Danger

By Christopher Jensen

Ford is recalling almost 550,000 vehicles in North America because the automatic transmission might not be in “park,” although the shift indicator says it is. That could allow the vehicle to roll, the automaker said in a news release Wednesday.

The action covers some 2013 -16 Fusions and some 2013-14 Escape models.

The automaker said a bushing could detach and cause the problem. It said it was not aware of any accidents or injuries “related to this condition.”

A Ford spokeswoman said the automaker learned of the problem through "normal processes which included evaluating field data."

About 504,000 vehicles are in the United States; almost 37,000 in Canada and 8,300 in Mexico.

The action covers vehicles during certain manufacturing dates:

2014 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 18, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013

2014-16 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant between June 2, 2014 and Aug. 31, 2015

2013-14 Ford Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Stamping and Assembly Plant between May 15, 2013 and Sept. 15, 2013
